Site preparation, excavation & grading.

Capitol Concrete prepares residential and commercial sites for construction. We handle defined earthwork packages or coordinate clearing, excavation and grading with the foundations, concrete and building work that follows.

What we can include.

  • Land clearing and construction-site preparation
  • Foundation and retaining-wall excavation
  • Grading, leveling and compaction
  • Roadway, driveway and parking-area preparation

Begin with the planned elevations and use

The site needs to work for the finished building, access routes and drainage. Send the site plan, survey and building information available so excavation limits and grades can be reviewed together. Soil testing and stabilization requirements are coordinated with the appropriate professionals rather than inferred from surface appearance.

Allow for access, stockpiles and removal

Equipment routes, neighboring improvements, material storage and haul access influence how the work can be done. Tell us what must stay in place and which areas remain occupied. The scope should identify clearing, excavation, imported material, removal and restoration responsibilities.

Prepare for the next trade

Foundation work, utilities and paving depend on a prepared site and a coordinated sequence. Discuss inspection stages and handover requirements before work starts. Unexpected soil, buried material or water conditions may require assessment and a documented change rather than continuing against the original assumption.

Pricing the complete scope

What affects the estimate?

Site size, cut-and-fill requirements, access, clearing, material handling, disposal and ground conditions affect excavation pricing. Available plans and a site review help define a useful estimate; acreage alone does not describe the work.

Before we meet.

Start with the property address and a description of the work. These details help us prepare for a useful conversation:

  • Site plans, surveys and the proposed building or paving layout
  • Known utilities, ground conditions and water concerns
  • Access routes, staging space and areas to protect

We discuss the scope and arrange a site visit. Your proposal identifies the included work, responsibilities and project-specific warranty terms. Changes to scope, cost or timing are documented before the changed work begins.

Questions about this work.

All project FAQs
Can excavation and foundations be one project?

Yes. We can coordinate site preparation with foundation and concrete work, or undertake excavation as a defined package for a larger construction team.

Does site preparation include soil testing?

Testing and design responsibilities are established during planning. We coordinate with the appropriate project professionals; a construction estimate should not be treated as a geotechnical assessment.
